The books message is showing social power. There’s a group of bulldozers, (company), and there’s also the environmental group (Fatimah). It’s giving a message that is saying that a small group of people can still stop the group who only wants the money and power. The author is trying to portray that Fatimah has a little bit of power and is still using it to make a difference. They’re also trying to portray that social power can be used by anyone to help stop / start anything. More people will eventually follow you so the power and strength grows even bigger then it was at the start. A technique used in the book is emotive language. Emotional language is where the author uses different words to create a sense of emotion. This technique is helpful with making the reader get put into the author’s shoes about how they feel, about the situation, and to help the reader understand more what’s happening. Therefore, in the poem they use the words, ‘vowed’ and ‘scrap’ these words are strong when in sentences, the first word vowed is telling the reader that she’s committed and is willing to sacrifice anything for the thing they value, The word scrap is saying how the forest is broken and hasn’t been looked after as well. This technique links to social power because it can help to tell people about the different sides / groups in people who use social power, it says how people can use social power to win people over. Another technique used in the image is camera angles. Camera angles are often used to create a sense of powerlessness, power or any other emotions that the character may be feeling. The technique helps prove my point about social power because it gives a group different perspectives about how much power they have compared to other groups using social power. Camera angles link to social power because it can help to show emotion, and who has the most power out of the two sides ( the bulldozers and Fatimah ) in the image the bulldozers have the most power, but Fatimah and her son still have a little bit. It links because it shows who has the upper hand in the situation. As well as camera angles another technique used in the book is colour , colour shows the emotion and more information about the picture, for example we can see a lot of grey on the buildings. Grey represents dead and boring, so it’s telling us how boring the buildings are. We can see the green in the forest and trees which tells us how lively and healthy something is. Therefore it links to social power because it’s giving us more information about both sides ( Fatimah and the bulldozers ) . The red is shown in bulldozers to represent anger and destruction, but Fatimah and her son are wearing white and blue, both calming colours. Overall social power is shown in the image because we can see the two sides (Fatimah and the bulldozers) and how much power they have against each other.
